Acid graffiti: restore the appearance of vandalized glass

Recover storefronts, façades and transportation glass affected by chemical graffiti. It is not paint: it is an attack on the glass surface.

Acid graffiti is not paint: it is a chemical attack that leaves letters, lines, runs and opaque areas. Grupo GNOVIA restores vandalized glass surfaces on storefronts, façades and transportation glass.

Before replacing the glass, choose a specialized restoration.Grupo GNOVIA restores superficial and deep damage with the glass installed when the glass remains intact and safe access is available.

How does this damage occur?

  • Hydrofluoric acid or similar chemical products
  • Vandalism through letters, symbols, or lines etched into the glass
  • Runs that attack additional areas
  • Intentional chemical etching on storefronts or transportation units

Visible and operational consequences

  • Creates opaque, etched areas that look visibly neglected
  • Affects the brand, the perception of safety, and customer appeal
  • On transportation systems it deteriorates the passenger experience
  • Replacement can take vehicles out service or interrupt operations

Restore before replacing

Replacing every vandalized pane increases downtime, disruptive operations and recurring cost. Restoration recovers uniformity and can be scheduled by visual priority or by vehicle/unit.

CoverageService in Mexico and specialized service in Colombia.

Technical scope and limitations

It is not paint or conventional graffiti. We restore deep chemical attack and organize the work according to extent, access and visual priority.

We do not work on broken, cracked, fractured glass or damage that structurally compromises the glass.

Where does it usually occur?

Storefronts and business façades, as well as public transportation.

Evaluate my case

Annealed glass and thicknessWe do not recommend restoring 6 mm annealed glass because its lower resistance makes it more difficult to withstand the process. Annealed glass 9 mm or thicker is more likely to withstand the intervention; even so, the service is performed only under the client’s responsibility and with prior acceptance of this condition. We do not work on broken, cracked or fractured glass.
Visual evidence

Documented chemical vandalism

Acid graffiti is neither paint nor dirt. The library includes commercial façades and transportation; the before-process-after sequence demonstrates the recovery of uniformity.

Real case

Public transportation: Metro and Mexibús

The library documents interventions on Metro Line A and Mexibús Line 3. The damage is a chemical attack: it is neither paint nor surface dirt.

Public transportation and trolleybuses

Chemical graffiti can also affect glass on transportation vehicles and stations, including trolleybuses. When the glass remains intact, restoration can recover visual uniformity without treating the damage as paint or conventional dirt.

Experience with different glass configurations

Grupo GNOVIA has documented experience restoring tempered, laminated, annealed and insulated glass in different thicknesses and access conditions. Each pane is evaluated according to its configuration, location, damage depth and proximity to the edges.

Polishing acid-etched glass can correct the chemical etching and recover visual uniformity when the glass remains intact.

Frequently asked questions

Is the work performed with the glass installed?

Yes. We work with the glass installed as long as it remains intact and safe access is available, avoiding removal and reducing disruption to your space.

Can tempered glass be restored?

We restore tempered glass with superficial or deep damage as long as the glass is not broken, cracked, fractured or structurally compromised.

Does the glass become distorted or weakened?

The specialized process recovers the surface in a controlled manner without distorting the glass or altering its function. Before starting, we confirm the scope using the case’s technical information.

Can deep damage be restored?

Yes. We restore deep damage when the glass remains intact; depth determines the work sequence and time, but by itself does not require replacement.

How is the price determined?

It depends on the type and depth damage, area, number of panes, access, height, location, sector and volume.

When is restoration not possible?

We do not work on broken, cracked, fractured glass or damage that structurally compromises the glass.

What happens near the edges?

It is not paint or conventional graffiti. We restore deep chemical attack and organize the work according to extent, access and visual priority.

In which sectors does it occur most frequently?

Storefronts and business façades, as well as public transportation.

What happens if a pane cannot withstand the process?

This is very uncommon because Grupo GNOVIA personnel are trained to restore glass and work with a controlled sequence. In exceptional cases, previously damaged glass might not withstand the intervention. If that occurs, we do not charge for the service performed on that pane; however, we do not assume the replacement cost glass that was already damaged before work began. This condition is explained clearly before the work starts.

Do you need an on-site visit to confirm the service?

Not in most cases. We confirm the service remotely using the damage description, measurements, glass type, location and access. On-site visits are mainly reserved for construction projects or projects with a large volume glass.
